The iPhone Dev Team has released new information regarding iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak and unlock situation, which is as follows:
With Turkey Day a few days off, today Apple publicly released FW version 4.2.1. As always, ultrasn0w unlockers please stay far far away from this official firmware (and all official firmware). Wait for the ability to create custom 4.2.1. IPSWs that don’t update your baseband! If you’re not an unlocker, read on!
The best news of all is for owners of iPhone3G, older iPhone3GS, and non-MC iPod touch 2G. Due to a combination of our original pwnage2 exploit, the arm7_go exploit, 24kpwn, and limera1n, your device is “just as jailbreakable as ever.” You reap the full benefit of an untethered 4.2.1 jailbreak.
Next are the owners of all the more recent devices. The good news there is that due to geohot’s limera1n exploit, all recent devices can be jailbroken (this will be true until Apple released new hardware that fixes geohot’s limerain exploit in the bootrom). The bad news is that right now, the 4.2.1 jailbreak is *tethered* on all of these recent devices. A tethered jailbreak means that each time your device loses battery power or needs to be rebooted, you must attach it to a PC or Mac to boot into the jailbroken state. @comex is working hard on a method that may untether the 4.2.1 jailbreak, but it will require you to have your 4.1 SHSH blobs in order to use it. No word on how much more effort it will take though (please don’t bug @comex about it!). (We also have an alternative method that may work, but @comex’s method is much more elegant.)
As we posted in our guide on how to jailbreak iOS 4.2 GM on iPhone 3GS; Cydia and a lot of jailbreaking apps are completely broken. Both Cydia and JB apps will, of course, eventually start working and if MuscleNerd’s tweet is anything to go by, hackers chpwn and saurik are burning the midnight oil to get it working as soon as possible.
In a reply to one of his many followers on Twitter, MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev Team has confirmed that ultrasn0w unlock for iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G on iOS 4.1 and iOS 4.2, with 05.14.02 baseband will be released in a day or two at most, once iOS 4.2 is released to public.
simplysaru: @MuscleNerd thanks.. how long would the wait be for 4.2 any approximate time
MuscleNerd: @simplysaru if you’re on 3G or 3GS, just a day or 2 at most after 4.2 is public (just enough time to verify stuff)
iPhone Dev Team has announced earlier today that they won’t be releasing the jailbreak for iOS 4.0.2 for iPhone, iPod Touch or iOS 3.2.2 for iPad.
Apple released iOS 4.0.2 two weeks back, which fixed the security vulnerability in iOS 4 and iOS 4.0.1 for iPhone, iPod Touch and iOS 3.2.1 for iPad that was used by JailbreakMe – the web-based to jailbreak iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
iPhone Dev Team explained the reason for not releasing the jailbreak for iOS 4.0.2:
3G Unrestrictor has been around for quite some time. This app unrestricts Apple’s download limit in appstore.app and itunes.app so in turn you can download large apps without wifi. To make it even better this makes youtube video quality great so no more blurry videos.
Last but not least this now unrestricts phone.app which is facetime for iphone 4 users, yeah you read it right facetime over edge and 3g. You can try before you buy but i highly recommend buying this app from the cydia store for 3.99
How To Install Cracked:
- After downloading the deb file above rename it to 3gunre.deb
- Copy it to var/mobile on your iphone and install using ifile or do the following

- Reboot your iphone and enjoy
The iPhone Dev-Team Members MuscleNerd and Planetbeing has confirmed that even though the unlock for iPhone 4 with ultrasn0w is ready and all, they will still do thorough testing in the next 48 hours to make sure everything is working before it is released to public. This is what they said on their respective Twitter accounts:
Planetbeing: We will be releasing the unlock in 48 hours (after we conduct a private beta).
MuscleNerd: iPhone4 carrier unlock will be pushed after small test period (only @planetbeing and I have been able to test til now!)
Stay tuned as we will let you know whenever it is available, along with full how-to guide on unlocking the iPhone 4.
I just found out about this fix from theiphonenerd Facebook fanpage and thought I should share it with you all. If you cant wait for JailbreakMe update, here is a quick possible fix for FaceTime and MMS issue on iPhone 4 after jailbreak using JailbreakMe 2.0 (Star). Simply follow the step by step guide below to fix the issue.
The userland jailbreak for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, 3G on iOS 4 / 4.0.1, iPod touch on iOS 4, and iPad on iOS 3.2.1 is out !!. It is a browser based jailbreak, all you have to do is to browse to http://jailbreakme.com or from your iphone click HERE from your iOS device to jailbreak it. Servers are probably thrashed right now. Keep trying until you successfully load the page. We will be back with quick how-to guides soon. Stay tuned for that !
