These are instructions on how to perform an untethered jailbreak of your iPhone 4 on 5.0.1 using RedSn0w for Mac. The Windows version of this tutorial here.

Create a folder on your desktop called Pwnage

These are instructions on how to perform an untethered jailbreak of your iPhone 4 on iOS 5.0.1 using PwnageTool for Mac. PwnageTool will let you customize your IPSW to prevent baseband updates and include Cydia packages.
Step One
Make a folder called “Pwnage” on the desktop. In it, you will need a couple of things. PwnageTool 5.0.1 which can be download from here.
You will also need the 5.0.1 iPhone 4 firmware which can be found here.
When downloading the IPSW file, it is best to download it with Firefox since Safari often auto extracts it! Continue reading »
Designer Jeff Broderick has created some beautiful icons with pre-made shortcuts to your iPhone settings.
As reported earlier, Apple has made about 35 pref shortcuts that you can use to quickly navigate to specific areas in the Settings menu. Broderick designed icons for 11 of the most popular shortcuts and has created a website that will automatically add the shortcut to your Springboard.
You can check out his shortcuts by navigating to http://brdrck.me/settings on your device. Select a Settings icon then choose to add it to your home screen.

One of the features that didn’t make it to iOS 5 was the ability to make FaceTime – Apple’s video calling feature over 3G.
However, it is possible to enable it on iPhone 4 by hacking one of the system files.
Developers have cracked Siri’s security protocols which will make it possible to use the assistant on any device including the iPad or even Android smartphones, according to Applidium.
Here’s some of what they discovered:
The iPhone 4S really sends raw audio data. It’s compressed using the Speex audio codec, which makes sense as it’s a codec specifically tailored for VoIP. The iPhone 4S sends identifiers everywhere. So if you want to use Siri on another device, you still need the identifier of at least one iPhone 4S. Of course we’re not publishing ours, but it’s very easy to retrieve one using the tools we’ve written. Of course Apple could blacklist an identifier, but as long as you’re keeping it for personal use, that should be alright! Continue reading »
