iOS 4.2.1 Jailbreak and Unlock News

The iPhone Dev Team has released new information regarding iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak and unlock situation, which is as follows:

With Turkey Day a few days off, today Apple publicly released FW version 4.2.1. As always, ultrasn0w unlockers please stay far far away from this official firmware (and all official firmware). Wait for the ability to create custom 4.2.1. IPSWs that don’t update your baseband! If you’re not an unlocker, read on!

The best news of all is for owners of iPhone3G, older iPhone3GS, and non-MC iPod touch 2G. Due to a combination of our original pwnage2 exploit, the arm7_go exploit, 24kpwn, and limera1n, your device is “just as jailbreakable as ever.” You reap the full benefit of an untethered 4.2.1 jailbreak.

Next are the owners of all the more recent devices. The good news there is that due to geohot’s limera1n exploit, all recent devices can be jailbroken (this will be true until Apple released new hardware that fixes geohot’s limerain exploit in the bootrom). The bad news is that right now, the 4.2.1 jailbreak is *tethered* on all of these recent devices. A tethered jailbreak means that each time your device loses battery power or needs to be rebooted, you must attach it to a PC or Mac to boot into the jailbroken state. @comex is working hard on a method that may untether the 4.2.1 jailbreak, but it will require you to have your 4.1 SHSH blobs in order to use it. No word on how much more effort it will take though (please don’t bug @comex about it!). (We also have an alternative method that may work, but @comex’s method is much more elegant.)

How To Jailbreak Your iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS or iPhone 3G Using PwnageTool (iOS 4.1

hacks, iphone, iphone 4, iPhone 4G, iphone os, jailbreak, News  Comments Off on How To Jailbreak Your iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS or iPhone 3G Using PwnageTool (iOS 4.1

iPhone Dev Team has released PwnageTool 4.1.2 to allow iPhone users to create and update their iPhone with a custom pre-jailbroken iOS 4.1.

This guide will provide iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G users with step-by-step instructions to update and jailbreak their iPhone with iOS 4.1.

Some important points before we proceed:

Please note that jailbreaking your iPhone may void its warranty so proceed with caution.
Don’t forget to backup your iPhone before you proceed. You can refer to this post for instructions on how to backup your iPhone.
Please ensure that your iPhone has enough charge.
This guide is only for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G users.
PwnageTool is only supported on Mac OS X and is not supported on Microsoft Windows. Windows users should wait for Sn0wbreeze that is expected to be released shortly.
Users who want to unlock their iPhone:
PwnageTool does not unlock your iPhone.
You can use Ultrasn0w to unlock your iPhone after you have successfully updated and jailbroken your iPhone with iOS 4.1.
But there is a catch. Ultrasn0w 1.1-1 can only unlock the following basebands (you can check the baseband by going to Settings –> General –> About –> Modem Firmware):
iPhone 4 baseband – 01.59.00
iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS basebands – 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01 and 05.13.04
So if your iPhone is currently on iOS 4.0.2 or lower then PwnageTool 4.1.x will allow you to create a custom pre-jailbroken iOS 4.1 and preserve the baseband so that you can unlock your iPhone using Ultrasn0w 1.1-1.
If you accidentally upgraded your iPhone 4 with iOS 4.1 then its baseband would have got upgraded to 02.10.04. Unfortunately, 02.10.04 baseband shipped with iOS 4.1 for iPhone 4 cannot be unlocked nor can it be downgraded.
Similarly, if you accidentally upgraded your iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS with iOS 4.1 then its baseband would have got upgraded to 05.14.02. Unfortunately, 05.14.02 baseband shipped with iOS 4.1 for iPhone 3GS or iPhone 3G cannot be unlocked nor can it be downgraded.
Please read the instructions carefully especially the ones highlighted in bold.
If you meet the requirements mentioned above then you can proceed with the step-by-step instructions to jailbreak your iPhone using PwnageTool. Continue reading »

Jailbreak Tool GreenPois0n for iOS 4.1 to Drop Before iOS 4.2 Release !

Vincent has just tweeted that the SHAtter exploit based jailbreak for iOS 4.1 for iPhone 4 / iPod touch 4 and iPad will be released soon. Why would we do an entire post after a simple tweet? Well, that’s because good ol’ Vincent here is the administrator of The iPhone Wiki (an encyclopedia which collects, stores and provides info on iPhone hacks), so the source is authentic and extremely reliable.

Vince tweeted:
They won’t wait for iOS 4.2 to release SHAtter. iOS 4.1 will be jailbroken soon.

This tweet was a prediction based on indications from @pod2g and others.

So there you go! Chronic Dev-Team hackers will not wait for iOS 4.2 to release GreenPois0n. So that’s further evidence that GreenPois0n is right around the corner. Be patient, folks! Stay away from fake tools and avoid asking devs for updates as you’ll only slow down their progress.

There is no exact Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) yet, but we will inform of the good news as soon as we have it.

The newly released iOS 4.1 Beta 2 features new baseband for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G which makes these mentioned phones locked on this new firmware. The guy who found the exploit used in Ultrasn0w 0.93 has confirmed that this new baseband patches the exploit and therefore it is highly recommended to stay away from this firmware for now if you rely on ancarrier unlock.

Well it’s not the full 4.1 we were expecting… but here’s a little tidbit from Apple. One of the main features? The update “improves the formula to determine how many bars of signal strength to display.” Interesting. We’re updating some devices right now, and will report back with what we find.
