Earlier this month, a Brazilian Mac website had claimed that Apple could be hosting a media event next week to unveil the next generation iPod Touch.

While no details regarding the product itself was made available, the sources however indicated that the event could be held around the 16th of this month. We are yet to hear official words from Apple about the rumored media event. However, John Gruber from Daring Fireball has indicated that the new iPod Touch could in fact be launching “in a few weeks” time. In a short post on his blog, Gruber has also backed recent speculations about the presence of front and rear facing cameras on the new iPod Touch besides hinting at the availability of a 960×640 pixel retina display on the next generation device.

Apple, iphone, ipod, rumors  Comments Off on iOS 4.0.2 and iOS 3.2.2 Release Seems Imminent. Backup Your SHSH Blobs Now!
Aug 112010

There are rumors flying left and right about Apple releasing the iOS 4.0.2 firmware for iPhones and iPod touches and iOS 3.2.2 for iPad in only a few hours from now. This update will patch the PDF exploit which is used by JailbreaMe to jailbreak all iOS devices. If you accidently update to iOS 4.0.2 / iOS 3.2.2, it will be impossible for you to jailbreak and unlock straight away until a new tool is available. The only way you can jailbreak again will be by downgrading back to iOS 4.0.1 or iOS 4 for which you will need your SHSH blobs.

Apple Peel 520 gets a white finish, odds placed on beating white iPhone 4 to market

If you’re gonna proverbially bear hug your iPod touch into a working cellular device, might as well get it in the trendiest color available, right? The Apple Peel 520 has now been shown off in white, a more stylish option for those wanting a case, extended battery, and freedom from the shackles of limited SIM options (at the expense of some functionality and ease of use, naturally). Still in production with no release date, but hey, if you’re the sort who likes to live on the outer fringes of consumer electronics, keep this import in mind. No promises it’ll work with whatever Apple has up its sleeve next, though.

iPod touch coming in a ‘few weeks’ with dual cameras and Retina Display, suggests John Gruber

Apple, ipod, News, rumors  Comments Off on iPod touch coming in a ‘few weeks’ with dual cameras and Retina Display, suggests John Gruber
Aug 112010

The sun will rise, pigeons will annoy, and Daring Fireball’s John Gruber will get inside scoops on Apple product releases. So it goes. This time he’s touching on, erm, the iPod touch, making an offhand (though firmly declarative) comment on a post about the Dell Streak: “if you wait a few weeks to buy the Touch, you’ll get one with a Retina Display and dual cameras.” The man’s not one to fool around with such matters, so we tend to believe him here. It also helps that nothing he’s saying would be really surprising — a new iPod in September? With features trickled down from the most recent iPhone? Then again, that camera has proved elusive before.

Apple patent application details iPod / iPhone bike integration system

Apple, Apps, iphone, ipod  Comments Off on Apple patent application details iPod / iPhone bike integration system
Aug 062010

Apple patent applications can be a little out there sometimes, but this one makes so much sense we have to wonder why it’s not a product already. Described as “Systems and Methods for Integrating a Portable Electronic Device with a Bicycle,” the application details what basically amounts to Nike+ for bikes. That includes the ability to relay data from bike sensors to your iPhone or iPod, which you’d be able to view on the device itself or on an external display of some sort — the application even goes so far as to mention the possibility of a heads-up display, although we wouldn’t get our hopes up for that. What’s more, the application also suggests that the system could communicate and share information with other nearby cyclists, and it would apparently include some fairly extensive GPS capabilities (on the iPhone, at least), including turn-by-turn directions to help you find a specific bike route, and maps complete with reviews from other cyclists.
