The next generation iPod Touch is expected to be launched in the fall of this year and there are already widespread speculations over the various new features that this new iPod Touch model could come with. One of the most talked about feature is the camera.

You may remember that the current model of iPod Touch too was widely speculated to come with a rear-facing camera though it is learned that Apple scrapped the feature eventually.

With the launch of the new FaceTime video calling feature on iPhone 4, chances of the new iPod Touch getting a front-facing camera to support FaceTime are now extremely high. These speculations have now received a boost with recently leaked pictures of what an iPhone parts supplier claims is the front LCD and bezel of the fourth generation iPod Touch. The part contains a hole on the front-side that could potentially house a camera for FaceTime calling. Interestingly, a high resolution image of the picture also reveals a stamp that indicates that this part could belong to Apple. Check out the images embedded below. Continue reading »

Folders is one of the major new features introduced in iOS 4. With over 240,000 iPhone apps available on the App Store and the subsequent increase in the number of apps users purchase and install on their iDevices, a better app management feature like Folders was very much needed.

Categories was one of my favorite jailbreak app to organize apps but Apple’s implementation of Folders just blew it away.

The only thing that I didn’t like about the folder feature is the limitation of only 12 iPhone apps per folder. In my case, the limitation had resulted in having more than one folder for some categories of iPhone apps such as Games and Utilities, which defeated the purpose of creating a folder to quickly find an iPhone app of a particular category. Over the past few days, we have been hearing rumors that suggest that the next generation of iPod Touch and iPad could come with a front facing camera that would enable FaceTime to work on these devices.

Now folks at Boy Genius Report have unearthed more information on how this could actually work out.

As you may be aware, Apple’s FaceTime video-calling feature references every user by their phone number. This is tricky since users of iPod Touch and iPad do not have a phone number referenced to their device. BGR sources have revealed that Apple may alternatively make use of the users’ Apple ID to reference the devices. Consequently, a FaceTime conversation with these users may be initiated by “calling” their email address. Here are screen-grabs of the FaceTime account registration and settings page on the next generation iPod Touch. Continue reading »

PosiMotion certainly announced this one well enough in advance (all the way back in December), but it looks like its Helix gaming grip for the iPhone and iPod touch is now finally available, and at Best Buy no less. In case your memory needs to be jogged a bit, this $20 contraption promises to be ideal for “virtually any game,” and let you use your iPhone or iPod touch in either portrait or landscape mode — it’ll also keep your headphones from getting tangled up for good measure.
