For instance, you can dump the SHSH of the current firmware on your device, so long as the device is susceptible to the Limera1n jailbreak (Everything but the iPad 2) Apple does not have to be signing the SHSH in order for you to dump the blob.
*Note the iPod Touch 2G and iPhone 3G will not work since they will always be jailbreakable. The iPad 2 will not work because it is not susceptible to Limera1n. A jailbreak is not needed for this.
Ever since Apple introduced an API in iOS to detect jailbroken iOS devices, developers have been using it to prevent users who have jailbroken their iOS devices from using their apps. They’re typically greeted with the following error message: “Jailbreak detected. App cannot run on a jailbroken device” when they launch such apps.
We’ve seen the jailbreak detection in apps such as Bloomberg Anywhere, Cablevision, Cisco M-Learning, DirecTV for iPad, Grimm’s Fairy Tales, Time Warner Cable, Verizon On Demand /FlexView etc.
Cool trick for iPhone photographers, that will enable them to take steadier shots beyond using the volume button on their iPhone. The new trick simply lets you plug in your iPhone’s Remote Earbuds, open the camera app, and then use the volume button on the headphones as a trigger. This is perfect for steadier shots, or taking a better front-facing shot. Interestingly, this trick can even be used with a Bluetooth device, as a sort of wireless remote. Designer Jeff Broderick has created some beautiful icons with pre-made shortcuts to your iPhone settings.
As reported earlier, Apple has made about 35 pref shortcuts that you can use to quickly navigate to specific areas in the Settings menu. Broderick designed icons for 11 of the most popular shortcuts and has created a website that will automatically add the shortcut to your Springboard.
You can check out his shortcuts by navigating to http://brdrck.me/settings on your device. Select a Settings icon then choose to add it to your home screen.
Turns out there an iTunes Dock setting for the Mac, hidden deep inside the new Lion OS. Once activated, the Dock will produce a pop-up notification of which iTunes track is currently playing. Although you can program Growl, a useful little utility, to show similar notifications, you may prefer having the native one found in Lion.
One of the features that didn’t make it to iOS 5 was the ability to make FaceTime – Apple’s video calling feature over 3G.
However, it is possible to enable it on iPhone 4 by hacking one of the system files.

Japanese users make extensive use of emoticons in their text messages and web pages. The use of these emoticons, called Emoji, is so prevalent that a standardized set of emoji icons are built into all the wireless handsets – including the iPhone.
Though Apple is known to have built the standard emoji keyboard into the iPhone since the firmware 2.0 update, this has not been made available to users outside Japan. So users outside Japan had to rely on hacks to use emoji icons on their iOS device.
However, with iOS 5, Apple finally allows users outside Japan to also use the Emoji keyboard. You can enable the Emoji by following these simple steps:
