Andrew Liu – jailbreak app developer who unofficially ported Swype – the most popular alternative keyboard for Android devices to iPhone, iPad and iPod touch has released a new beta version of his jailbreak app on Cydia.

Yesterday, Swype Inc CEO Mike McSherry had said that the jailbreak app didn’t appear to be a port, as some of the key features such as the blue tracer line are missing.

He was right, Andrew Liu has revealed that he has written his own code to bring Swype like experience to the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, rather than porting Swype to iOS as the code for the official version is not open source. Liu plans to rename the jailbreak app so that users don’t get confused with Swype.

PhoneItiPad Now Available In Cydia Store

Well today we’re happy to announce iPhoneIslam has released PhoneIt-Pad which will turn your ipad 3g into a fully working iphone. Sooo who’s going to be the first to hold up their huge phone up to their face in public? Don’t forget to take a picture and send it in for us to see.

PhoneItiPad is a little steep on the price selling for $19.99 but if you really do plan on using your ipad as a jumbo sized iphone then it should be a nice investment.

Here’s how to set it up:

Step 1: Locate your ICCID, which you should be able to find under System > General > About. This is your unique mobile identifier, which you’ll later need to set up PhoneItiPad.

Step 2: Purchase PhoneItiPad by clicking on this link (you can do this from computer). Insert your ICCID when requested.

Step 3: Fire up Cydia and add the following repository: http://apps.iphoneislam.com. Then locate the “PhoneItiPad” and install it.

Step 4: From here, the tweak should work directly, and you should be able to make calls and send SMS messages, as showcased on the original video released by iPhoneIslam.

You should think twice before giving out your unique ICCID to a third-party, but that seems to be a requirement to be able to make calls on the iPad. If the video above is to be believed, this hack works very effectively and is well worth the $19.99.

Avoid The Most Common iPhone Passcodes

iPhone developer Daniel Amitay has posted the ten most common iPhone passcodes which he found by anonymously recording and analyzing passcodes used by customers of his Big Brother Camera Security iPhone app.

Formulaic passwords are never a good idea, yet 15% of all passcode sets were represented by only 10 different passcodes (out of a possible 10,000). The implication? A thief (or just a prankster) could safely try 10 different passcodes on your iPhone without initiating the data wipe. With a 15% success rate, about 1 in 7 iPhones would easily unlock–even more if the intruder knows the users’ years of birth, relationship status, etc.

By default, iOS uses fairly minimalistic sliding transitions when moving back and forth between panels in many applications, including the built-in System Preferences App. PagePusher replaces that with a page-turning effect, which you may either find beautiful or incredibly annoying.

This tweak was developed by Ryan Petrich, an Edmonton, Canada-based developer, as part of Tweak Week, a series of daily open-source tweak releases. Ryan has worked on several other iOS tweaks in the past, as well as full-fledged apps, including Overboard, which allows users to look at all their home screens at a glance; Display Recorder, a screen recorder for iOS that outputs high-quality video; and DisplayOut, which allows users to mirror their iDevice screen onto projectors larger monitors using Apple’s own HDMI, VGA, Component or Composite adapters. These are instructions on how to dump the SHSH blobs of your current firmware even if Apple is not signing.

For instance, you can dump the SHSH of the current firmware on your device, so long as the device is susceptible to the Limera1n jailbreak (Everything but the iPad 2) Apple does not have to be signing the SHSH in order for you to dump the blob.

*Note the iPod Touch 2G and iPhone 3G will not work since they will always be jailbreakable. The iPad 2 will not work because it is not susceptible to Limera1n. A jailbreak is not needed for this.

Apple improved the Mail app in iOS 4 by including features such as Universal Inbox, ability to organize emails by thread etc. But there are quite a few features still missing from it, which we hope will be added in iOS 5.

If you’ve jailbroken your iOS device then checkout Mail Enhancer – a jailbreak tweak as the name suggests add lots of new features to enhance the Mail app.

Mail Enhancer adds the following features to the Mail app:

Ability to add a signature to every email address – including HTML format, which will then be added automatically to every new email, reply or forward. You no longer need to use a workaround to add HTML email signatures.
Send email in HTML format.
Quickly swap sending email addresses and signature.
Custom notifications for incoming mail (vibrate, popup, custom sound, speech announcement).
Choose Ringtones as the sound for incoming email.
It can also tell you the name of the sender and number of incoming mails using the Speech feature. Continue reading »

SBSettings Toggle Let’s You Quickly Enable Or Disable Personal Hotspot Feature

Personal Hotspot was one of the most useful features introduced in iOS 4.3, which lets you connect other devices to the Internet using the iPhone 4’s data connection. But it’s a pain to disable the feature when you don’t need it.

A jailbreak tweak aptly named Personal Hotspot SBSettings Toggle has recently been released that allows iPhone 4 users to quickly enable or disable the Personal Hotspot feature.

SBSettings is one of our favorite jailbreak apps as it offers a faster way to disable or enable settings like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G etc instead of the usual process of using the Settings App. Developers can also create custom toggles for SBSettings that can be installed from Cydia so that users can access them quickly from SBSettings menu.
