If you’ve jailbroken your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch using PwnageTool 4.3 for Mac, Sn0wbreeze 2.5 for Windows or Redsn0w 0.9.6rc9 that was released by iPhone Dev Team couple of days back and noticed issues such as single signal bar etc. then iPhone Dev team has announced that a fix is on its way.
Gevey has released a SIM Interposer which can unlock the iPhone up to iOS 4.3 by force activating the baseband using the emergency dialer.
A blog post by Laforet explains that the SIM Interposer works by adding a EEPROM chip to your SIM card just like a TurboSIM. You then call 112, a number that can be called from any GSM phone, free of charge, with or without a SIM card on any compliant network. Once the call connects you hang up then toggle Airport mode on and off. When the network connection resumes you will be unlocked.
We finally have some good news for iPhone 4 users who want to unlock their iPhone.
Sherif Hashim, iPhone hacking expert who had figured out a way to activate iPhone without the need for the official carrier SIM has hinted that software method to unlock iPhone 4 will be released in less than a month.
Sherif Hashim revealed this while responding to a tweet from one of his followers:
Some users have reported significant loss of GPS signal after upgrading to baseband 06.15.00 using Redsn0w or PwnageTool to unlock their iPhone.
MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team has just confirmed that they are working on a solution that will allow users to downgrade their iPhone’s baseband back to 05.15.04. MuscleNerd revealed this while responding to one of his followers on Twitter:
We had reported yesterday that iPhone users who had unlocked their iPhone using a combination of PwnageTool or Redsn0w to update baseband to 06.15.00 and Ultrasn0w 1.2 for iOS 4.2.1 were observing poor battery life.
Developer @sbingner (author of popular jailbreak app – TetherMe) has figured out a way to fix the issue. He has released a jailbreak app called SAM (Subscriber Artificial Module). It tricks your iPhone and iTunes into creating legitimate activation tickets even though you’re unlocked with Ultrasn0w.
These are instructions on how to jailbreak your iPhone 3G on the 4.2.1 firmware using RedSn0w for Windows
IMPORTANT FOR UNLOCKERS
During this process you can update your baseband to the 06.15 version. If you are on 05.14 or 05.15 or higher you will need to do this to unlock. You do not need to do this for jailbreak only. Please read the following very carefully before deciding whether to do this.
We had reported yesterday that iPhone Dev Team plans to release the eagerly awaited unlock for iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G for iOS 4.2.1 on Sunday.
However, it is not clear if the updated version of Ultrasn0w will unlock baseband 05.15.04 that was shipped with iOS 4.2.1.
But we have some good news for users who have accidentally updated their iPhone 3GS or iPhone 3G with iOS 4.2.1 and updated the baseband to 05.15.04.
These are instructions on how to jailbreak your iPhone 4 on the 4.2.1 firmware using RedSn0w for Mac. You will only be able to perform a tethered jailbreak at this time. This means you will need Redsn0w’s assistance to boot into your jailbroken device.
If you want to jailbreak a lower firmware version you can find the appropriate tutorial just keep scrolling down the page.
Make sure not to update to iOS 4.2.1 if you need an unlock as one is not yet available!
