Apple expanded its Maps Flyover feature, which offers photo-realistic, interactive 3D views to three new cities.

New locations include Perth (Australia), Saint-Tropez (France) and Cordoba (Spain).

Apple had introduced the feature in iOS 6, and has been slowly expanding coverage. Earlier in the year, Apple added the feature in Cape Town (South Africa), Helsinki (Finland)and Marseille (France). Continue reading »

i3D is a new app that can create a glasses-free 3D display on iDevices, using a technology known as Head-Coupled Perspective (HCP). Developed by the folks from the Engineering Human-Computer Interaction (EHCI) Research Group, HCP uses a front facing camera to track the movements of a user’s head, allowing the app to adjust the display accordingly. 3D is all the rage these days, whether that be displays or cameras, with Nintendo’s 3DS mobile gaming console one of the few to offer glasses-free 3D. Now thanks to research by Jeremie Francone and Laurence Nigay from the Laboratory of Informatics of Grenoble at the EHCI Research Group, Apple’s iPad 2 is getting in on the action.

Ryan Petrich, developer of popular jailbreak apps such as ProSwitcher, Rotation Inhibitor, Clippy etc has recently released another tweak called DeepEnd.

The jailbreak app gives the iPhone homescreen a cool 3D-like effect by moving the iPhone’s wallpaper based on its orientation.
