Siri, Apple’s virtual assistant, has been the highlight of the iPhone 4S launch. Not just because it’s very sophisticated and can make stuff easy for you, but because it’s funny. As David Pogue said, it’s entirely possible that a bunch of Hollywood joke writers, camped up in Apple’s North Carolina data center, are coming up with the funny responses Siri has in store for iPhone 4S users.

This Is My Next’s Joshua Topolsky experimented quite a bit with Siri early on when he reviewed the iPhone 4S, and needless to say discovered a number of funny responses.

After the iPhone 4S went on sale to the public, Siri’s humor became widely known with multiple screenshots of Siri’s funny responses doing the rounds on Twitter. It went onto become viral, and even got the Tumblr treatment every meme gets. Continue reading »

With just few minutes to go for iOS 5 launch, MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev team has revealed that they plan to bundle the ability to create custom iOS firmware file to preserve the iPhone baseband in Redsn0w – their popular tool instead of launching the PwnageTool for iOS 5.

If you were hoping that the jailbreak community will figure out a way to enable Siri – Apple’s revolutionary new intelligent personal assistant, which is exclusively available only on the iPhone 4S, to other iOS devices then we have some bad news. MuscleNerd has revealed that based on initial analysis it may not be possible to port Siri to the iOS devices without piracy: Continue reading »

iPhone 4S clocked at 800MHz, still crushes iPhone 4 and compatitors

Apple  Comments Off on iPhone 4S clocked at 800MHz, still crushes iPhone 4 and compatitors
Oct 112011

Pre-orders for the iPhone 4S only began shipping this week, but a handful of early owners have already taken Apple’s first A5-based smartphone for a test run, and they’ve got the benchmarks to prove it. The results, obtained by AnandTech, are hardly what we’d call shocking. In terms of Javascript performance (pictured above), the 4S measures up rather nicely against the Tegra 2-based Honeycomb competition, while out-dueling the iPhone 4 in overall CPU muscle. Geekbench results, meanwhile, clock the 4S at around 800MHz, with a score of 623. That’s about 25 percent lower than the A5-based iPad 2, but notably higher than the iPhone 4 (see graphic, after the break). When it comes to GPU performance, GLBenchmark 2.1 tests in 1280 x 720, off-screen render mode place Apple’s new handset well above the Galaxy S II, with scores of 122.7 and 67.1, respectively. It still trails the iPad 2, not surprisingly, but the 4S’ scores show a major advantage over the iPhone 4, which registered a score of 15.3. According to The Verge (formerly known as This is my next), the elusive Facebook for iPad app is about to go live “momentarily” on the App Store. The iPhone app will also get updated, the publication has it, with bookmarks to apps, a new Requests dialog that will display app notifications, and support for Facebook Credits for in-app payments. Venture Beat quoted Facebook engineer Leon Dubinsky as describing the software on the Facebook blog, but no post was up at press time. While the social networking giant has yet to formally announce the program, they already have a dedicated URL up and running at facebook.com/mobile/ipad. Continue reading »
