It looks like a fake jailbreak tool for iOS 4.x has been circulating recently, which claims to be using the SHAtter exploit.

Please do NOT download it as it is a trojan that steals passwords from computers.

SHAtter was a new exploit discovered by pod2g of the Chronic Dev Team, which allows the use of unsigned code execution that could jailbreak iDevices for life. The unofficial release of PwnageTool for jailbreaking iOS 4.0.2 is now out in the wild. It can jailbreak iPhone 3GS (with old bootrom only) using iOS 4.0.2 custom firmware. There is of course no need to update to iOS 4.0.2 if you have iOS 4.0.1 (jailbroken using JailbreakMe) and PDF Patch installed from Cydia. But in case you have updated to iOS 4.0.2 accidently on your iPhone 3GS (with old bootrom), you can jailbreak it again using this version of PwnageTool for Mac.

Apple released iOS 4.0.2 yesterday to fix the security vulnerability in iOS 4 and iOS 4.0.1 that was used by JailbreakMe – the web-based method to jailbreak iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

Experts had raised concerns that the security vulnerability in iOS could be exploited in a similar way by malicious websites to install malware. If you have jailbroken your iPhone and don’t want to upgrade to iOS 4.0.2 as you will end up breaking your jailbreak then you will be relieved to know that there is a solution for you.

Apple has just released iOS 4.0.2 for all iPhones, iPod touches, and iOS 3.2.2 for iPad to patch the PDF exploit which was used by JailbreakMe to jailbreak all iOS devices on iOS 4.0.1. If you want to keep your jailbreak and unlock, you better not update to this latest firmware now or you will be out of luck for long. Incase you have decided not to update, make sure you use PDF Loading Warner app which will make your web browsing safe. Of course if you care about security of your iPhone, then you can go ahead and update to the latest firmware from iTunes.

While Apple has released iOS 4.0.2 for iPhone 4, 3GS and 3G, the important thing is that they haven’t updated the baseband. What this means is that 05.13.04 baseband which accompanies iOS 4.0.2 is still unlockable with ultrasn0w provided that you manage to jailbreak your iOS device. At the moment, only iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G (Non-MC model) can be jailbroken on this latest firmware using the latest version of Redsn0w. So technically, you can only unlock iPhone 3G on iOS 4.0.2.

Apple has just released iOS 4.0.2 for the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G along with iOS 3.2.2 for iPad.

iOS 4.0.2 fixes the security vulnerability in iOS 4 and iOS 4.0.1 that was used by JailbreakMe 2.0 – the web-based to jailbreak iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. According to the release notes, iOS 4.0.2 and iOS 3.2.2 includes fixes for the security vulnerability associated with viewing malicious PDF files.

Experts had raised concern that the security vulnerability in iOS could be exploited in a similar way by malicious websites to install malware.
