These are instructions on how to jailbreak your iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS on iOS 4.3.3 or iOS 4.2.8 (Verizon CDMA) using JailbreakMe.

If you are already on iOS 4.3.3 or iOS 4.2.8 you can skip the first five steps of this tutorial.

*Remember that updating to iOS 4.3.3 will update your baseband and perhaps ruin your chances of an unlock. Use TinyUmbrella (Mac, Windows) to update the iPhone 4 to iOS 4.3.3 without updating the baseband.

Apple TV 2G Jailbreak 4.2.2 Firmware (iOS 4.3) Using PwnageTool / Sn0wbreeze 2.7.2

apple tv, jailbreak  Comments Off on Apple TV 2G Jailbreak 4.2.2 Firmware (iOS 4.3) Using PwnageTool / Sn0wbreeze 2.7.2

iPhone Dev Team has released a bundle for PwnageTool for Mac and iH8sn0w has also released Sn0wbreeze 2.7.2 for Windows to jailbreak (untethered) Apple TV 2G Software 4.2.2.

Apple released Apple TV 2G Software Update 4.2.2 (iOS 4.3 – build 8F305) to fix some minor bugs and also add an audio output setting for switching to 16-bit audio for compatibility with some TVs and AV receivers.

Dev Team has provided the following details on their blog:

Apple released a minor update to iOS 4.3 for AppleTV2G (the IPSW name still says 4.3, but the build version changed from 8F202 to 8F305). @i0n1c was once again able to quickly port his original 4.3.1 untether (the exploit that wouldn’t die!) to this version. Continue reading »

iPhone Personal Hotspot sending GPS information to tethered iPads? (video)

ipad, News  Comments Off on iPhone Personal Hotspot sending GPS information to tethered iPads? (video)
Mar 172011

You may not have known this, but besides missing a 3G radio, the WiFi-only iPad also lacks the A-GPS chip that enables exact GPS positioning versus less-accurate WiFi triangulation. Well, according to Tablet Monsters, if you’ve got an iPhone with iOS 4.3 and are subscribed to Personal Hotspot, your shiny slate should be able to tap into the GPS chip of it’s smaller-screened family member. Reports in the MacRumors forums confirm that people are indeed seeing this added functionality on both iPad 2 and the original. Though the native Maps app is reportedly working perfectly there’s talk of unfriendliness in turn-by-turn GPS apps — though this could have to do with the refresh rate of the transmission. If you’re already shelling out for the Personal Hotspot plan this is a nice added bonus, and makes the choice between the 3G iPad and the WiFi one just a little bit easier — assuming you’ve got an iPhone of course. Still skeptical? Check out a video of it in action after the break. Continue reading »

iPad 2 Has Been Jailbroken

You knew this was coming — it was only a matter of time — and here it is, Apple’s latest creation sans the iOS 4.3 chains. The development community credits @comex with installing Cydia on this white iPad 2, and he’s apparently already hard at work on a public jailbreak. According to his Twitter feed, the hack required a brand new exploit, as previous bugs were squashed in iOS 4.3. We’ll keep you posted on when the hack’s ready for you to use, too.

I0n1c has just demonstrated an untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3 using his iPad.

As we mentioned yesterday, i0n1c was listed as one of the many possible sources for a 4.3 untether by MuscleNerd.

I0n1c posted the video below on YouTube saying, shows my alpha untethered jailbroken iPad on iOS 4.3. alpha because not all required kernel patches are in it, yet.

iOS 4.3 Released

Apple, News  Comments Off on iOS 4.3 Released
Mar 092011

Well, it’s not March 11th, but you can now download iOS 4.3 for you iPhone, iPad or iPod touch (most of them, anyway). That, of course, brings with it mobile hotspot functionality for iPhones, along with a variety of new AirPlay features, a new and improved version of Safari, and a number of other more minor improvements and fixes (like an option to control how your iPad’s side switch behaves). We’re already busy testing it out ourselves and will report back on what we find, but you can feel free to leave your own first impressions in the comments below in the meantime — Apple’s complete list of what’s included in the update is after the break.

iOS 4.3 Reveals FaceTime, Camera Apps; Points To iPad 2 Camera

Apple, ipad, rumors  Comments Off on iOS 4.3 Reveals FaceTime, Camera Apps; Points To iPad 2 Camera
Jan 202011

There have been a bunch of rumors in the past few weeks that the iPad 2 would come with a front-facing camera for Apple’s FaceTime video calling feature. However, these rumors and speculations were based on reports from part vendors and accessory makers.

There was nothing from Apple that suggested that these features would arrive on the iPad 2 until iOS 4.3 Beta was released earlier this month. Macrumors has noticed that iOS 4.3 Beta 2 contains even more evidence, which indicates that the second generation iPad will get a front facing camera and also come pre-installed with Apple’s FaceTime, Camera and Photo Booth app. Continue reading »

‘Find my Friends’ MobileMe feature revealed in iOS 4.3

Apple, News  Comments Off on ‘Find my Friends’ MobileMe feature revealed in iOS 4.3
Jan 132011

Looks like Apple will be adding a new “Find My Friends” feature to its MobileMe service in the not too distant future. The settings pictured above were unearthed in the latest iOS 4.3 developer build that’s already yielding a healthy list of new devices and functionality including in-app AirPlay video support, a carrier-dependent personal WiFi hotspot, the return of the physical orientation lock switch, and a host of new multitouch gestures. Presumably Find My Friends will offer functionality akin to the free Google Latitude app doing little to justify Apple’s $99 MobileMe annual cost.

Update: Remember Apple’s iGroups location-based social networking patent application? We just did.

iOS 4.3 beta released to devs, brings AirPlay video support to apps, personal hotspot and more [Video]

Apple, News  Comments Off on iOS 4.3 beta released to devs, brings AirPlay video support to apps, personal hotspot and more [Video]
Jan 132011

We’d been disappointed to find that iOS 4.2 only brought AirPlay video support to built-in Apple apps on the iPhone and iPad, but it looks like that’s changing soon — Apple just posted up the first iOS 4.3 beta, which allows devs to send video from apps or websites to an Apple TV. There’s also a new beta of the Apple TV software for testing it out — it doesn’t have any version notes, so we don’t know if it offers any additional features as well. Continue reading »
