When Apple launched the iPhone 4S in October of 2011, one of the most talked about and probably its headline feature was the inclusion of the Siri intelligent assistant software which attempted to make life easier by being able to accomplish tasks given to it through a simple voice command. When invoked by the user, Siri is ready and able to take spoken orders which can range from setting meetings up in the calendar, checking the location of friends and family or even pulling up a weather forecast for most locations in the world. There can be no denying that the favored jailbreak flavor of late 2011 and 2012 has to be the iOS 5 exclusive Notification Center and Siri digital assistant. The inclusion of the two new features in the public release of iOS 5 presented practically limitless opportunities for developers when it comes to extending their native limited abilities.

Through a stock iOS 5 installation, Notification Center gives users access to a dedicated screen which displays pushed notifications for active applications as well as interactive widgets which are all accessed through a pull down method from the status bar. The problem with a stock installation of iOS, is that Notification Center only comes with two available widgets which allow the display of location based weather as well a financial ticker. Pod2g has successfully implemented an untethered jailbreak of iOS 5, as this video demonstrates.

In earlier November, pod2g announced that he had found a bug that would be able to untether iOS 5.

Hey jailbreaking friends, I’ve found a bug that can untether iOS 5. Don’t expect a release soon, but I’m gonna work hard in it.

It appears that his work has paid off; however, the untethered jailbreak isn’t compatible with the iPhone 4S or iPad 2 just yet.

Tons of questions from my nice followers. Too early to answer. Will work on iOS 5.0.1, will try iPad 2 and 4S after others are ready.

But… I don’t own a 4S nor I an iPad 2. Continue reading »

Windows phone Vs iPhone 4s [voice command]

Microsoft’s Craig Mundie shoved his foot knee deep in his mouth this week when he said that Siri was nothing special, and Microsoft’s own voice capabilities have been around for over a year.  The reason for Siri’s success?  Marketing, of course.

People are infatuated with Apple announcing it. It’s good marketing, but at least as the technological capability you could argue that Microsoft has had a similar capability in Windows Phones for more than a year, since Windows Phone 7 was introduced.

Yesterday, we published a post in which we talked about a Chronic Dev Team member claiming that he had found a bug which would help in untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.

The news comes straight from pod2g – iPhone hacker and member of the Chronic Dev Team – in the form of an update sent out from his Twitter account in which he states that people who plan on jailbreaking should stay away from iOS 5.0.1 because of the bug and the resulting exploit that was found recently will be closed in the latest version of iOS. Japanese users make extensive use of emoticons in their text messages and web pages. The use of these emoticons, called Emoji, is so prevalent that a standardized set of emoji icons are built into all the wireless handsets – including the iPhone.

Though Apple is known to have built the standard emoji keyboard into the iPhone since the firmware 2.0 update, this has not been made available to users outside Japan. So users outside Japan had to rely on hacks to use emoji icons on their iOS device.

However, with iOS 5, Apple finally allows users outside Japan to also use the Emoji keyboard. You can enable the Emoji by following these simple steps: Continue reading »
