These are instructions on how to jailbreak your iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS on iOS 4.3.3 or iOS 4.2.8 (Verizon CDMA) using JailbreakMe.

If you are already on iOS 4.3.3 or iOS 4.2.8 you can skip the first five steps of this tutorial.

*Remember that updating to iOS 4.3.3 will update your baseband and perhaps ruin your chances of an unlock. Use TinyUmbrella (Mac, Windows) to update the iPhone 4 to iOS 4.3.3 without updating the baseband.

iPhone Personal Hotspot sending GPS information to tethered iPads? (video)

You may not have known this, but besides missing a 3G radio, the WiFi-only iPad also lacks the A-GPS chip that enables exact GPS positioning versus less-accurate WiFi triangulation. Well, according to Tablet Monsters, if you’ve got an iPhone with iOS 4.3 and are subscribed to Personal Hotspot, your shiny slate should be able to tap into the GPS chip of it’s smaller-screened family member. Reports in the MacRumors forums confirm that people are indeed seeing this added functionality on both iPad 2 and the original. Though the native Maps app is reportedly working perfectly there’s talk of unfriendliness in turn-by-turn GPS apps — though this could have to do with the refresh rate of the transmission. If you’re already shelling out for the Personal Hotspot plan this is a nice added bonus, and makes the choice between the 3G iPad and the WiFi one just a little bit easier — assuming you’ve got an iPhone of course. Still skeptical? Check out a video of it in action after the break. Continue reading »

You knew this was coming — it was only a matter of time — and here it is, Apple’s latest creation sans the iOS 4.3 chains. The development community credits @comex with installing Cydia on this white iPad 2, and he’s apparently already hard at work on a public jailbreak. According to his Twitter feed, the hack required a brand new exploit, as previous bugs were squashed in iOS 4.3. We’ll keep you posted on when the hack’s ready for you to use, too.

‘Find my Friends’ MobileMe feature revealed in iOS 4.3

Looks like Apple will be adding a new “Find My Friends” feature to its MobileMe service in the not too distant future. The settings pictured above were unearthed in the latest iOS 4.3 developer build that’s already yielding a healthy list of new devices and functionality including in-app AirPlay video support, a carrier-dependent personal WiFi hotspot, the return of the physical orientation lock switch, and a host of new multitouch gestures. Presumably Find My Friends will offer functionality akin to the free Google Latitude app doing little to justify Apple’s $99 MobileMe annual cost.

Update: Remember Apple’s iGroups location-based social networking patent application? We just did.

iOS 4.3 beta released to devs, brings AirPlay video support to apps, personal hotspot and more [Video]

We’d been disappointed to find that iOS 4.2 only brought AirPlay video support to built-in Apple apps on the iPhone and iPad, but it looks like that’s changing soon — Apple just posted up the first iOS 4.3 beta, which allows devs to send video from apps or websites to an Apple TV. There’s also a new beta of the Apple TV software for testing it out — it doesn’t have any version notes, so we don’t know if it offers any additional features as well. Continue reading »
