A lot of users prefer to go about their web browsing experience in private, something that is relatively easy to do in modern browsers on desktop-based computers. However, when using the default mobile browser on iOS, the ability to surf the web privately isn’t exactly a seamless experience, and although Mobile Safari does have private browsing features, it doesn’t exactly offer the peace of mind which advanced users crave. Mike Tagas, an iOS developer, has recognized this oversight by Apple and developed the Onion Browser and released it onto the App Store which allows a total private and anonymous browsing experience. It took a while for Mark Zuckerberg’s company to deliver native iPad compatibility, but ever since, the updates have been pretty rampant. Released today, 4.1.1 is the second update since the third-gen iPad dropped nearly three weeks ago. Continue reading »

When Apple launched the iPhone 4S in October of 2011, one of the most talked about and probably its headline feature was the inclusion of the Siri intelligent assistant software which attempted to make life easier by being able to accomplish tasks given to it through a simple voice command. When invoked by the user, Siri is ready and able to take spoken orders which can range from setting meetings up in the calendar, checking the location of friends and family or even pulling up a weather forecast for most locations in the world. Well, it looks like we didn’t have to wait long for that iOS 5.1 update promised for today. The update is already rolling out to iPhones, iPads and compatible iPod touches. That brings with it a number of improvements and bug fixes, including the previously-announced Japanese language support for Siri, a redesigned camera app for iPad, the ability to delete individual photos from Photo Stream and, somewhat curiously, an “updated AT&T network indicator.” What’s more, as previously rumored, the camera shortcut is now also always visible on the lock screen for iPhone and iPod touch users. Pod2g has successfully implemented an untethered jailbreak of iOS 5, as this video demonstrates.

In earlier November, pod2g announced that he had found a bug that would be able to untether iOS 5.

Hey jailbreaking friends, I’ve found a bug that can untether iOS 5. Don’t expect a release soon, but I’m gonna work hard in it.

It appears that his work has paid off; however, the untethered jailbreak isn’t compatible with the iPhone 4S or iPad 2 just yet.

Tons of questions from my nice followers. Too early to answer. Will work on iOS 5.0.1, will try iPad 2 and 4S after others are ready.

But… I don’t own a 4S nor I an iPad 2. Continue reading »

As we mentioned yesterday, hacks using Siri Proxy has caught the fancy of many developers as we continue to see developers creating cool plugins for Siri Proxy.

Another developer with YouTube handle phildman14 has created a custom Siri Proxy plugin, which allows him to control devices in his room.

As you can see in the video below, the developer has figured out a way to create a plugin that can pull the curtains, control the lights in a room, turning on the fan and turning off the desk lamp using Siri.
