Arriving today was the eagerly anticipated iOS 4.2.1 update, along with previously-paid Apple’s device tracking, locking, and wiping tool called Find My iPhone.

Find My iPhone is a tracking application by Apple, it runs on your iOS device and tracks the location of the device. If lost, you can login to MobileMe, see the location of the device, display a message on the device, play a sound, lock the device with a PIN and even completely wipe the data off the device.

Before now this was only available on the iPhone 4, iPod touch (fourth generation), and the iPad. Follow this easy guide to get it working on any iOS device running iOS 4.2.1. Following multiple requests from media organizations, the affidavit relating to the leak of the next generation iPhone prototype by Gizmodo last month has been unsealed.

The document, a copy of which is embedded below, offers an interesting glimpse into the circumstances that led to the iPhone prototype being lost by Apple Engineer, Gray Powell, and the chain of events that followed.

San Jose Business Journal is reporting that Apple had requested for the criminal investigation of lost iPhone 4G prototype incident.

Police have apparently identified and interviewed the person who had found the next generation iPhone prototype that was left by an Apple engineer in a San Jose bar.

It is still not clear whether the person interviewed by the police is the same person who sold the lost iPhone to Gizmodo for $5000.

Apple has enabled access to its Find My iPhone service from your iPhone and iPod touch.

Now, if you lose your iPhone, MobileMe can help you find it. MobileMe includes a new feature called Find My iPhone. Just enable Find My iPhone in MobileMe settings on your phone. Then you can log in to me.com from any computer to access Find My iPhone and display your phone’s approximate location on a map.

To use Find My iPhone on your mobile device navigate to me.com and press to select the Use Find My iPhone button.
