FaceTime On iPod Touch 4G In The Middle East

As you might be already aware, FaceTime is disabled on iPhone 4′s sold officially in countries like UAE, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

However, folks over at iRamadah are reporting that FaceTime works fine on the new iPod Touch 4G in the Middle East.

While it was earlier speculated that Apple decided to drop the feature as some of these countries have banned certain VoIP services in the past, it is now obvious that this ban is more of a carrier centric one. Chronic Dev Team has just released greenpois0n to jailbreak iOS 4.1 for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 4G, iPod Touch 3G and iOS 3.2.2 for iPad.

Chronic Dev team had to delay the release of greenpois0n after Geohot released limera1n as they decided to incorporate the same USB bootrom exploit used in limera1n instead of using the SHAtter exploit so that it can be used sometime in the future. greenpois0n works only on iOS 4.1 and iOS 3.2.2 for iPad. iPhone 4 users can use Tiny Umbrella if they want to upgrade to iOS 4.1 to preserve the baseband so that they can unlock it using Ultrasn0w after jailbreaking their iPhone. As we had reported yesterday, Apple will be holding a “special event” on September 1 in San Francisco where the company is expected to unveil the next generation iPod Touch and the new iOS-based Apple TV besides possibly revealing plans for their new ¢99 TV show rental service.

With less than a week to go for the event, industry insiders and analysts have been speculating on the various surprises Apple may have in store for us.

According to Shaw Wu from Kaufman Bros., Apple could be making a significant move to an ARM architecture based processor on the new Apple TV set-top box. The current model of Apple TV runs on an Intel x86 chip which Wu says will make way for a custom A4 processor similar to the one available on the iPad and the new iPhone 4. Continue reading »

An iPhone parts supplier has put up a next generation iPod Touch panel for sale on a Chinese website. The pictures of the unit confirm earlier rumors about the next generation device carrying a front-facing camera to support FaceTime video calling.

iPod Touch 4G With Retina Display And Dual Camera Coming Soon

Earlier this month, a Brazilian Mac website had claimed that Apple could be hosting a media event next week to unveil the next generation iPod Touch.

While no details regarding the product itself was made available, the sources however indicated that the event could be held around the 16th of this month. We are yet to hear official words from Apple about the rumored media event. However, John Gruber from Daring Fireball has indicated that the new iPod Touch could in fact be launching “in a few weeks” time. In a short post on his blog, Gruber has also backed recent speculations about the presence of front and rear facing cameras on the new iPod Touch besides hinting at the availability of a 960×640 pixel retina display on the next generation device.
