Following AT&T’s announcement this morning, Apple confirmed 2 million pre-orders in 24 hours. That statistic more than doubles the pre-order record of approximately 1 million units held by the iPhone 4S (600,000 for iPhone 4). Apple also noted demand is exceeding its initial supply and some pre-order customers will not receive their device until October. For those doing the math, that is 83,333 units an hour (or 1,388 a minute, or 23 a second, etc.) over the first day. That’s enough iPhone 5 boxes to stretch 190 miles (or 1 million feet). It is Interesting that iPhone 5 pre-orders seem to line up with Phil Schiller’s statement about new iPhones selling as much as all previous generations combined—an observation we like to refer to as “Schiller’s Law”.
Apple Store is back online! and guess what? It is now accepting pre-orders for Verizon iPhone 4.
And just like the AT&T GSM version of iPhone 4, the CDMA based Verizon iPhone is also available in two sizes: the 16GB model which costs US $199 and the 32GB model which costs US $299. All these devices will ship on 10th February 2011.

The thinking all along was that there’d be an allocation of unreserved iPhone 4s in AT&T stores this Thursday for customers who didn’t bother to (or couldn’t) pre-order the phone ahead of time, but not so much. Turns out that the extra stock won’t be arriving until June 29, at which point it’ll be available on a first-come, first-serve basis (read: every man, woman, and child for themselves) both in stores and online. Of course, this is strictly an AT&T announcement — Apple Stores and Best Buys are still possibilities — but basically, there’s no point in lining up on the 24th at your local AT&T shop unless you’ve got confirmation that a reserved phone is available for you. Follow the break for AT&T’s full statement.
We knew it was coming end of May, now we have a date: May 28th and up for pre-order on May 10th. That’s when the iPad will hit Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK. It lands in Austria, Belgium, Hong Kong, Ireland, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand and Singapore in July.
Update: Tax-inclusive pricing is out. Très cher! Oh, and Orange UK has fessed up to pricing details for the iPad 3G + WiFi.
We knew iPad pre-orders were starting tomorrow, but know we know exactly when all you lovable crazies have to stumble out of bed and transmit your credit card numbers to Steve’s brain: 8:30AM ET, or 5:30AM on the West Coast. We generally recommend a bed shaker alarm clock, but hey, let’s not pretend we haven’t all turned a few long nights into tomorrow with our old friends Jackie D and Mistakes. See you on the other side, chochachos.
