It’s been in the works for more than a year, but Verizon’s FiOS on Demand app has finally arrived to the iPad and iPhone. Available as a free download on the iTunes Store, this tool provides FiOS subscribers with instant access to all movies or TV shows available under the provider’s Flex View service, which now boasts some 4,400 titles for purchase or rent, along with 32GB of cloud storage for each customer. It’s still unclear whether Verizon will be releasing a version for other tablets or handsets anytime soon, but iDevice owners can download the app at the source link below.

Verizon begins throttling iPhone unlimited 3G customers

News  Comments Off on Verizon begins throttling iPhone unlimited 3G customers
Sep 172011

We can’t say we weren’t warned, since Verizon updated its data policy way back in February, but it’s still a punch in the gut to hear its “network optimization” plan went into effect yesterday. A new policy page pointed out by Droid-Life explains how the policy will affect only the “top 5 percent of data users with 3G devices on unlimited data plans” (LTE and tiered data users are in the clear) by managing their speeds when connected to towers it has deemed are congested. Those conditions, termed network intelligence by Big Red, are what it feels separates this scheme from mere data throttling since it will only affect a few users (those consuming 2GB or more of data per month) at certain times and places, but it’s hard to see it any other way. If you’re one of those affected, expect a message on your bill or My Verizon account, although you may go into and out of the affected group depending on your usage. Hit the source link below for all the details — anyone else think it’s not a coincidence this policy popped up just before the iPhone 4 came to Verizon and is being implemented only weeks before the next iThing is expected to arrive?

Let the speculation begin! It may not be a sign of an iPhone refresh, but we’ve received multiple tips today about an imminent price drop for Apple’s flagship smartphone. According to a pair of trusty tipsters, Radio Shack is prepping to cut the cost of AT&T’s 16GB iPhone 4 to $169.99, with a two-year contract, from $199.99. The 32GB version will likewise take a $30 plunge at the Shack, ringing in at $269.99, and the price of the 8GB 3GS will drop to $19.99. Phone Arena is likewise reporting on Target slicing up the old Apple price tag, but lists varying numbers based on carrier. If all this talk turns out to be true, those prices should be ripe for the picking starting tomorrow.

Verizon dropping unlimited data plans this summer, it will get the iPhone 5 at same time as AT&T

Verizon’s been telegraphing its intent to drop unlimited data plans for nearly a year, and despite the fact that LTE smartphones launched with all-you-can-eat options, those plans haven’t changed one bit. Reuters reports that Verizon will finally nix the megabyte buffet this summer, replacing it with a fully tiered data pricing scheme, though CFO Fran Shammo also floated the idea that tiered data could open up an avenue for family data plans. We’ve never really enjoyed sharing minutes, so we doubt counting our kilobytes will be much fun, but we suppose there’s always room for Verizon to pleasantly surprise us with a really low price for mobile web browsing. Right? By the by, Fran also reiterated claims that the next iPhone will be a global device, and said that when it launches on AT&T, it’ll hit Verizon stores at the very same time.

Verizon now selling original iPad for Just $300 Dollars

Apple, ipad, Verizon  Comments Off on Verizon now selling original iPad for Just $300 Dollars
Mar 252011

We’ve yet to see any sort of official announcement, but folks have been flooding various deal sites with reports that Verizon is now selling the original iPad for just $299.99 in-store. That’s for the 16GB WiFi-only model, of course, but the 32GB and 64GB models have also apparently been discounted to $399.99 and $499.99, respectively. As you might suspect, however, there’s also plenty of reports of Verizon already being sold out, so you might not want to waste much time if you’re thinking about taking the plunge. MiFi sold separately, of course.

If you’re planning to buy iPad 2 with Wi-Fi+3G in the US, then it is important to remember that you get an option to select the model that either supports AT&T’s network or Verizon’s CDMA network – not both.

Though Verizon was selling the original iPad along with AT&T, the original iPad with Wi-Fi+3G only supported AT&T’s network so Verizon had to offer the MiFi mobile hotspot with the original iPad with Wi-Fi only model for 3G data. Continue reading »
