Airport stations & Time Capsule Update brings bug fixes and iCloud support

Apple, News  Comments Off on Airport stations & Time Capsule Update brings bug fixes and iCloud support
Feb 012012

It looks as if the Final Cut Pro X update wasn’t the only software refresh Cupertino folks had in store for us. In this particular case, it’s the company’s networking and backup goods — also known as Airport Express, Extreme and Time Capsule — that are on the receiving end of the virtual enhancements. The 802.11n stations are getting a fix that solves “an issue with wireless performance,” while the capsule is seeing some much needed iCloud support. Additional Apple cloud integration doesn’t stop there, as you’ll also be able to remotely access your Airport disk. Though, it’s worth mentioning that in order to take full advantage you’ll have to update your Airport Utility to the latest version (6.0). That means you’ll also need Lion, so those of you keepin’ your OS X old school with Snow Leopard will be out of luck on using some of the new features. Looking to up your wireless game? Isis NFC based payment system gets its first market in Salt Lake City, Utah, launch in 2012

iphone  Comments Off on Isis NFC based payment system gets its first market in Salt Lake City, Utah, launch in 2012

Like 3D on high-end HDTVs, NFC-based payment systems seem set to invade our mobile lives whether we like them or not. Isis, a collaborative venture between AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon and a bunch of banking big timers, has today announced the first market for its rollout of a contactless payment scheme, and it’s none other than Salt Lake City, Utah. That’ll surely raise eyebrows in locales that may consider themselves more tech-savvy, but we reckon starting off with a city of a smaller scale might be good for getting this “mobile wallet” system off the ground. And then there’s the added benefit of Isis snagging a deal to enable compatibility with the entire Utah Transit Authority footprint. If all plans are executed properly, that should mean that by summer 2012 the good people of SLC will be able to NFC their way around town with just their smartphone in hand, while also swiping it through checkouts like some form of highly advanced techno-humans.

iPhone 4 may get AT&T mobile hotspot on February 13th

at&t, iphone 4, rumors  Comments Off on iPhone 4 may get AT&T mobile hotspot on February 13th
Feb 032011

So you might have noticed a few reviews of Verizon’s iPhone 4 crop up last night, nothing unusual about that, but a couple of its reviewers have had something to say about AT&T’s version of the phone as well. Walt Mossberg and David Pogue (who has since stricken the date from his review) both pinpoint February 13th as the date when they expect AT&T to turn on the Personal Hotspot capability that Verizon’s iPhone will have from launch. That’s expected to happen with an update to iOS 4.3, which recently went out to developers in its third beta iteration, suggesting the software’s nearly mature enough for public consumption and seemingly fitting right into this timeline. Mind you, this is still not concrete information, as Mossberg could conceivably have been talking of AT&T’s Mobile Hotspot app which is launching on the same day on devices like the Inspire 4G, and Pogue could have deleted the date for similar reasons, but we’re somehow disinclined to believe that two gentlemen in a position to have insider(ish) intel would both make such a mistake at the same time.

Verizon iPhone hands-on!

Apple, iphone, iphone 4, Verizon  Comments Off on Verizon iPhone hands-on!

We just got a look at the Verizon version of the iPhone 4. Guess what? It’s just like an iPhone 4! There’s no custom pre-loaded Verizon software (like VCAST or some such bloatware), just that mobile hotspot tweak in the settings menu. There’s also no Verizon branding on the phone, though that’s hardly a surprise given Apple’s hatred of all logos that aren’t its own. The only real physical difference we can find are those tweaked CDMA-compatible antennas running around the edge — four in all, placed symmetrically and bumping down the volume / mute buttons. Interestingly, the phone is running iOS version 4.2.5, so perhaps that mobile hotspot functionality will make its way over to other iPhones when they sync up on iOS updates. Continue reading »

It’s not surprising that after Apple finished explaining the iPhone 4 antenna issues to the press today, the company wanted to go one step further and say “yes, actually, we do test the hell out of these phones before we release them to the public.” Though Steve Jobs went over the lengthy and intensive kinds of radio evaluation that goes on at Apple’s headquarters, it didn’t seem to be enough for the folks in Cupertino. And that, we suspect, is why we were invited (along with a small group of other journalists) to take a brief tour of Apple’s Infinite Loop labs. Though we weren’t allowed to shoot video or take pictures, we can tell you about what we did — and what we didn’t — see and hear behind closed doors. Continue reading »

Cloud-Based iTunes and Wireless Device Syncing Coming ‘Soon’?

Apple, News  Comments Off on Cloud-Based iTunes and Wireless Device Syncing Coming ‘Soon’?

Boy Genius Report claims to have received information from an Apple source noting that the company is finally gearing up to launch its cloud-based iTunes initiative, a program that will also included wireless syncing for devices.

We have been told iTunes will be getting a huge cloud capability that many people have been asking for (and logically thought would happen sooner or later). These new capabilities are broken down into three groups:

Sync Your iPhone Wirelessly To iTunes [ Video ]

Apple, iphone, News, Tips & Tricks  Comments Off on Sync Your iPhone Wirelessly To iTunes [ Video ]
Apr 262010

There are some players who can sync wireless with your computer like “Zune”, but Apple probably thought this wasn’t necessary for the iDevice users. Because of that Greg Hughes has developed and submitted a App to the App Store that makes it possible to sync your iDevice with iTunes via Wi-Fi. In the video above you can see that its very easy to use and once you are connected you are good to go. My only worry is that it will not be approved to the App Store, but lets hope it does so we will soon be able to sync without the need of a cable.
